An antique ivory bible box with bronze gilded hinges , Sri Lanka from the Dutch colonial period of the XVIII century . Good overall condition ( the inside done in later velvet ) . Sizes : H 17,6 x L 10,8x D 5,2 cm .

This bible box was used to protect the paper bible in the tropics and was also a status symbol .
